The Long Island neighborhood of Wantagh, NY is wedged between Flat Creek on the West and Cedar Creek on the East. To the south is Oliver’s Channel, which leads to Jones Inlet and out to the Atlantic Ocean. East of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, Wantagh is one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the state of New York. While the cost of living in Wantagh is 59% greater than the national average, crime is virtually non-existent; the education system is in the top 10% in the nation; the income per capita is almost double that of the American average; and whereas 45% of New Yorkers are forced to rent, 95% of the people living in Wantagh live in their own homes.

Wantagh has a population of less than 20,000 people. The median age in Wantagh is 43.3 and 70% of the residents are married according to the United States Census Bureau. The population is 95% Caucasian, 4% Asian and 1% mixed race. Families in Wantagh are primarily made up of children ages 6 to 17 with only 28% under the age of 6. Only 2% of the men in Wantagh are separated or divorced.

  • Located in Southeastern Nassau County, Wantagh State Park is an 111 acre park with hiking and biking trails, fishing, amenities for children, an Olympic size pool facility and home of the annual Basset Hound Olympics.

Jones Beach Island Park

  • Only a 20 minute drive south on Wantagh State Parkway from the Wantagh Neighborhood is Jones Beach Island Park, “the most popular on the East Coast with an estimated 6 million visitors per year. The park offers 6.5 miles of ocean beach and two swimming pools. Other amenities include concession stands, miniature golf, shuffleboard, basketball courts and playgrounds, performing arts theater playing shows all summer and a gift shop.

Twin Lakes Preserve

  • Features 5 picturesque and serene freshwater ponds. The preserve is dedicated to educating residents on the enjoyment and preservation of Long Island’s natural environment through outdoor events and activities including: hiking, bird watching, sports fishing in lower twin lake and upper twin lake.

Forest City Community Park

  • Located in the town of Hempstead, this park features a 6,000 square foot L-shaped pool including a driving area at one end. Other attractions of this park include ponds covering 6 acres of land and nature trails, picnic areas, baseball fields and playgrounds.

Music in Wantagh

  • Nikon at Jones Beach Theater – a destination for locals and those coming from NYC alike, as this venue is home to some of the larger concerts that come to the area. Having its place right on the beach allows concert-goers to spend the day at the beach and in the park before enjoying the music at night.
